The BAR Stars Come Out for Tequila Immersion Day 2008

On October 13th in San Francisco's One Market Restaurant, 40 of the top bartenders on the West Coast gathered for a rare treat: a full-day seminar on tequila and tequila cocktails taught by the founding members of BAR , which reads like a Who’s Who in the spirits and cocktail world: Dale DeGroff, Paul Pacult, Steve Olson, Andy Seymour and Dave Wondrich. Leo DeGroff and Partida Bartender Ambassadors Jacques Bezuidenhout and Willy Shine rounded out the cast.
Tequila Immersion Day participants learned about the history of tequila, tasted 32 tequilas blind and sampled cocktails created by the BAR team. Gary Shansby, Founder & Chairman of Partida Tequila, made sure that the focus of the day was squarely on education. "The success of our brand — and the whole super premium tequila category — depends on great bartenders learning about this wonderful spirit, mixing cocktails and sharing their knowledge with cocktail and spirits enthusiasts,” said Mr. Shansby. "The attentive and enthusiastic response from the great group of bartenders who attended proved to me that we are definitely on the right track with our focus on education."
Special thanks for this year’s Tequila Immersion Day goes to Jacques and the staff at One Market who worked to pull off a flawless event despite huge logistical challenges (and lots and lots of glassware).

Pumpkin Margarita

2 oz. Partida Reposado Tequila
1 oz. fresh lime/lemon juice mix
splash of pumpkin puree
sesame seeds
lime wedge

Bon Appetit Supper Club & Cafe, New York

Partida Tequila was the exclusive tequila at Bon Appétit Magazine’s 2008 Supper Club and Cafe, which took place on October 23 – 31 in New York. Partida Tequila was poured at events throughout the week, and served hand-crafted cocktails at select events. The Supper Club featured private dinners and parties hosted by renowned chefs such as Mario Batali, Charlie Trotter, Cat Cora, John Besh, Michael Psilakis and Tyler Florence. Partida Bartender Ambassador Elba Giron led a 30 minute tequila demonstration. She started with background information about tequila and then spoke about what makes Partida Tequila so special. She invited a few people from the audience to taste each of the 3 marques. Elba also demonstrated making the Partida Margarita and asked for an assistant from the audience to show how delicious it is and how easy it is to make. The demonstration was well received and the audience loved the recipes Elba shared.

Partida at the Best of Boca & Beyond

On November 6th, the Boca Center came alive with over 450 guests at the Best of Boca & Beyond 2008 presented by Boca Raton Magazine. Guests enjoyed delicious appetizers and desserts from some of the top restaurants in the area including: Rocco's Tacos, The Ritz-Carlton, Palm Beach, Boneheads, Bourbon Steak, Blue Martini and Lemongrass. Fine wines and specialty cocktails were served, but the Partida Margarita booth had the longest and busiest line. Bartender Ambassador Marita Leonard and her team served over 900 Partida Margaritas that evening. Quotes such as "best margarita I ever tasted," "never thought a tequila could taste so smooth" and "I usually don't like or drink margaritas, but I could drink these all day long!" could be heard throughout the entire evening. It was a magical evening for all...great food, wine, cocktails and a chic fashion show. Proceeds from the event went to the Twin Palms Center for the Disabled and the Golden Bell Education Center. "When you are at an event such as this one, only the best will do and that's what we provided," said Marita Leonard, Partida Bartender Ambassador in Miami.
Alderman Reilly of Chicago’s 1st District hosts Cocktail Event

On November 13th, Partida Tequila partnered with Streeterville Chamber of Commerce to host the State of the Ward with Alderman Brendan Reilly of Chicago’s 1st District. Held at the dramatic new Instituto Cervantes, 150 of Chicago’s political and business elite mingled and shared ideas on how to improve the city.
Sofia Partida at Binny’s Willowbrook, Chicago
Sofia met one of Partida’s biggest fans in Chicago at the Binny's Willowbrook store. Bartender Ambassador Alex Fowler hosted two limited group seminars at Binny's Willowbrook and Ivanhoe Castle locations on October 29th and 30th. Both seminars were very successful and sold 2 cases of Partida plus Elegante. "Partida has raised the bar in the world of premium tequila. Once you've tried Partida, you'll never accept anything less," said Dr. Marc Swerdlick.

Top Partida account, Cien Agaves celebrates its 1-Year Anniversary with Partida Margaritas.
Event at Desert Mountain

Desert Mountain is one of Arizona's premier residential communities. It is situated just north of Cave Creek overlooking the Phoenix/Scottsdale area and the vistas are simply beautiful. Each year, the Desert Mountain community organizes an expo to reintroduce the residents to the menus of each clubhouse, meet up with friends and view the social calendar for the coming season.
This year, The Expo was held on October 30th and hosted 1,000+ guests. Since Partida is represented at every clubhouse and restaurant, it took center stage as one of the fine spirits sponsoring the event. Regional Sales Manager Bill Hall and Bartender Ambassador Stephen Perry introduced many of the residents to the full line of Partida Tequilas, as well as the Partida Margarita. Many guests wanted directions to the closest retailer where Partida is sold. One gentleman returned for another glass of Partida Añejo for his wife and noted that she is a devout Patron drinker, but Partida has just made her reconsider her options. It was obvious by the end of the evening that Partida had won over many of the residents. "While there were plenty of margaritas consumed, I was delighted that many of the residents recognizing a fine spirit when they taste one and sought out Partida to sip neat or on the rocks," said Stephen Perry, Partida Bartender Ambassador in Phoenix.

Opening of Pranna

Partida Bartender Ambassadors Willy Shine, Aisha Sharpe and Elba Giron have just helped open Pranna Restaurant in midtown Manhattan. Pranna is an ultra modern, super chic restaurant and lounge that infuses the cuisines of Southeast Asia with an Indian twist. Willy, Aisha and Elba set up the delicious, one-of-a-kind cocktail menu using only fresh fruit, Asian spices and premium spirits. One of the signature cocktails on the menu is the Thai-Gave using Partida Blanco Tequila and cilantro.
Jax Kitchen Victory at the World Margarita Championship
Owners Brian and Sandy Metzger of Jax Kitchen won the World Margarita Championship using Partida Blanco Tequila. The 3rd Annual World Margarita Championship was held on October 23rd at the Historic Train Depot in Downtown Tucson, AZ. See next issue for full story.

Gianfranco Verga’s “The Shanks” with Partida Blanco Tequila is now featured on the cocktail menu at Louis 649. Louis 649 is one of premier jazz/music lounges in New York City’s Lower East Side.
The Camelback Inn’s BLT Steak & R Bar

The Camelback Inn is one of Phoenix's original and favorite resorts. Nestled in Paradise Valley, it has a commanding view of Camelback Mountain and offers some of the finest dining in Arizona. BLT Steak is Chef Laurent Tourondel's adaptation of the modern American steakhouse. They also have a great cocktail on their menu called the Last Oasis made with Partida Blanco and Partida Agave Nectar. R Bar is a contemporary gathering spot, perfect for meeting old friends or new people. R Bar features a variety of hand-crafted cocktails, house-made infusions and the Inn’s signature margaritas. Their Acai Passion cocktail uses Partida Blanco, Acai liqueur and passion fruit.

The Mission Restaurant in Scottsdale, Arizona features Partida Blanco in their signature Mission Margarita. Chef Matt Carter has created a fantastic "modern Latin American" menu–-a unique combination of Peruvian, Ecuadorian and Brazilian cuisine.

On October 29th & 30th, Partida hosted a very important group from the UK. Amongst the visitors were Tomas Estes (Ambassador of Tequila to Europe) and his son Jesse Estes, Stuart Ekins and James Shelbourne from InSpirits, as well as Chef Mark Hix and journalists Alice Lascelles and Tom Parker Bowles.
The visit began with dinner on Wednesday night hosted by Vinicio Estrada, President of Tequila Partida de México, where the UK visitors and members of Partida were able to enjoy the haut-cuisine dishes of Cocina 88.
Thursday morning, the special VIP Elegante Tour began at the agave fields with Don Enrique sharing his story and knowledge. Once at the distillery, the visitors were received with Partida Margaritas before being led on a tour by Production Manager Jose Valdez. The group was very attentive to his explanations as they invariably kept their pens on their pads.
After the tour, an Elegante tasting was held at the terrace led by Tom Estes. Highlighting the evening was an “altar de muertos” (a Mexican altar celebrating those who have passed away; a celebration, the Day of the Dead), along with a Mexican buffet and a 10 member mariachi band.
It was an excellent visit, as InSpirits also expressed their commitment to quality and excellence.

Scottish Press & Bartender Cocktail Module at ‘29’ Glasgow
Inspirit brands hosted a tasting session at the '29' Bar in Royal Exchange Sq on Tuesday, November 11th. The tasting conducted by the Worldwide Cocktail Club’s Dre Masso included staff from Road Hole Bar, Gleneagles Hotel, Dakota, Blue Dog and The Buttery. Press from On Trade Scotland, Scottish Licence Trade News, Scottish Grocer and M8 Magazine were also in attendance. The tasting was extremely useful for the press in Scotland. Chris Fitzgerald, Senior Staff Writer at SLTN commented "It was very informative and thoroughly enjoyable. I have to say, myself and my colleague John Murray from Scottish Grocer Magazine, agreed afterwards the Partida Blanco was the best Tequila we've tasted." As a result of the tasting senior bartenders were very excited about putting into action their new knowledge of Partida cocktails. All four publications will be running coverage of the brand and the day’s events.

It is at the northern tip of Cancun, in front of Plaza Caracol where we find Mocambo, an exquisite Mexican seafood restaurant that delights all senses. Mocambo, which sits next to the aqua blue waters of the Mexican Caribbean, offers excellent entrées and buffet options to their international clientele. In pursuit of offering the finest of spirits and beverages, Mocambo welcomed Partida staff to receive a tequila training session.
Led by Dr. Jaime Villalobos, one of the highest tequila authorities in Mexico and the world, Partida hosted the tequila tasting and training session for Mocambo personnel. Dr. Villalobos led the Mocambo team through three of the Partida expressions — Blanco, Reposado, and Añejo while also illustrating the tequila making process, from harvesting the agave plant, all the way to bottling.
"We are very glad to have had the opportunity to be here with Mocambo. They completely understand that learning about and serving premium tequila, like Partida, to their clients is a must," said Raymundo Valdivia, Partida Sales Manager in Mexico.
